It is important to recognize natural assets and maximize their potential. When trying to identify and invest in the community's natural capital, the community can focus attention to improve utilization of natural resources; to preserve and enhance the beauty of nature by organizing trails, parks, and beaches; and to protect the environment and improve the services that nature provides (e.g., eliminate soil, air, and water pollutants and contaminants; eliminate soil erosion; reduce greenhouse gas emissions). One key measure under natural capital is the air quality index, which reports how polluted the air is and how polluted it is forecasted to become. More data regarding the natural capital can be found under "More Measures."
