In order to build successful communities, community leaders need to understand and appreciate diverse cultures, establish relationships, and build alliances among the various cultural groups. Understanding cultures will help us benefit from each cultural group's strengths and perspectives and overcome and prevent racial and ethnic divisions. Community cultural capital can be enhanced through community projects. Community festivals, heritage events, and preservation of community traditions are some examples. This section provides indicators that measure the racial distribution of population in North Dakota. Communities with greater diversity will benefit from recognizing and celebrating the traditions, values, heritage, arts, and social history of each cultural group.
