Securing a job is a prerequisite to participating in the economy and sharing in its benefits. At the community and state level, a shortage of jobs increases unemployment, reduces tax revenues, and curtails economic growth. Serving as the primary source of income for U.S. households, jobs are essential to the economy. Although job creation is an important component of the economy, fostering an environment where jobs can be created and sustained for the long-term has long lasting effects.
