Child Safety

Compendium of National Juvenile Justice Data Sets, US Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs
An online resource that provides juvenile justice data, intended as an aid to investigations of juvenile offending, victimization, and contact with the juvenile justice system. The data sets include, but are not limited to, topics such as the characteristics of violent juvenile offenders, student victimization at school, sexual activity, and substance use. Data sources include official records and self-report data from surveys.

ND KIDS COUNT
In its annual Fact Book and Statewide Profile publications, North Dakota KIDS COUNT reports on Safety and Risky Behaviors including child abuse and neglect, children impacted by domestic violence, and juvenile court data. Additional data, including trend data, are available at the national KIDS COUNT Data Center.

ND Vital Records, ND Department of Health
ND Vital Records reports infant, neonatal, fetal, perinatal, and childhood and adolescent deaths (number and rates), including trend data, in the Vital Events annual summaries.

Education and Early Care

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, Early childhood worker wages
The Bureau of Labor Statistics provides estimated mean hourly and annual wages for child care workers, pre-school teachers, kindergarten teachers and early childhood program administrators for North Dakota. To view, reference the section titled "Education, Training and Library Occupations".

North Dakota Child Care Data Reports, Child Care Aware of North Dakota,
Child Care Aware® of North Dakota collects and maintains data about the child care industry in North Dakota. Statewide and county data is compiled and revised annually. Child Care Aware of North Dakota also provides the average cost of licensed child care by county, data on children potentially needing care, referral requests, and types of licensed early childhood programs, capacity, and enrollment.

Health

Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health
Features national and state-based data from the National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) and the National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs (NS-CSHCN). Topics in the NSCH include health status, obesity, mental and oral health, medical homes, family impacts on health, and neighborhood context, among others. Breakdowns are available by age, sex, race/ethnicity and poverty level.

National Immunization Survey, CDC
Provides current, household, population-based, state and local area estimates of vaccination coverage among children and teens.

Office of Adolescent Health, US Department of Health & Human Services
Provides state-specific data on adolescent health topics such as reproductive health, mental health, physical health and nutrition, substance abuse and healthy relationship. Choose a topic and then click on the map of North Dakota to view specific data.

PeriStats, March of Dimes
PeriStats is developed by the March of Dimes Perinatal Data Center and provides access to maternal and infant health data for the United States and by state.

State Health Facts, The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation
The Health Status category includes data on births, deaths, childhood immunizations, physical activity, sexually transmitted diseases, etc.

Youth Risk Behavior Survey North Dakota
The YRBS monitors risk behaviors that are often established during childhood and early adolescence and result in unintentional and intentional injuries. The YRBS was designed to monitor trends, compare state health risk behaviors to national health risk behaviors and intended for use to plan, evaluate and improve school and community programs. Data are available through the ND Department of Public Instruction and the CDC's website.

Poverty

National Center for Children in Poverty
Provides demographic profiles on the characteristics of children on poor and low-income families. It also provides publications on Adolescent Health & Youth Development, Child Poverty, Children’s Mental Health and others.

Sexual Behavior

YRBS, Sexual behavior data
In addition to our key measures, YRBS provides data about sexual behavior including onset of sexual activity, number of partners, experience with oral sex, attitudes about abstinence, testing for STDs, and sexual orientation.

STD rates by type of sexually transmitted disease and gender for North Dakota.

ND Vital Records
ND Vital Records reports teenage live births and teenage pregnancies (number and rates), including trend data, in the Vital Events annual summaries. The Induced Termination of Pregnancy reports include data by age of pregnant woman.

Special Health Care Needs and Disabilities

Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health
Features national and state-based data from the National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs (NS-CSHCN). Topics in the NS-CSHCN include prevalence of special health care needs; health insurance coverage; access to, affordability and adequacy of care; the impact of the child’s condition on other areas of life; etc. Breakdowns are available by age, sex, race/ethnicity and poverty level.

IDEA Data: About children with disabilities
Provides public access to data about children and youth with disabilities served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) -- part B and C that are reported annually by states to the Office of Special Education. Contains state-level data about the age, race/ethnicity, and counts of children with diagnosed disabilities served through IDEA, including speech or language impairments, emotional disturbances, autism, mental retardation, traumatic brain injury, and others.

Substance Abuse

Office of Adolescent Health, US Department of Health and Human Services
North Dakota Adolescent Substance Abuse Facts presents data on Alcohol, Tobacco, Illicit and Nonillicit Drug use by adolescents in North Dakota.

Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Programs, NDSU
Faculty and staff at NDSU conduct regular research related to alcohol and other drug use prevention. This site provides a list of reports, publications, and presentations.

National Substance Abuse Index
Substance abuse statistics, drug rehabilitation and substance abuse treatment admissions for the state of North Dakota. Statistics are broken down into these categories: primary drug of abuse or addiction, age group, and cultural background.

YRBS, Youth substance abuse data
YRBS provides data about substance use among students grades 7-12 including tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs. Data are also available through the CDC's website.

Well-Being

Child Trends DataBank
Developing, using, and sharing child well-being indicators is the backbone of Child Trends’ work. Child Trends examines the full spectrum of child well-being, including health, socio-emotional development, education, and civic engagement, as well as the settings of children's lives. Through the Child Trend DataBank, they examine and monitor over 100 indicators that focus on both risk and positive development, and consider the application of the indicators in research, policy, and practice.

North Dakota KIDS COUNT
North Dakota KIDS COUNT is a state and county-by-county effort to track the status of children in North Dakota. On the national KIDS COUNT Data Center, data for more than 100 measures of child well-being can be used to generate reports, maps, and line graphs. Trend data are available.
